I wonder if it's possible that a different brand of spark plug wires (colored versus black, silicone versus regular rubber, etc) would make a difference. They seem to be very selective about what kind of plastic they like. Even insulation is all nominally "vinyl", they like one kind and not another.

I read that back in the 1950s when Bell Telephone was switching from lead sheathing to vinyl for its buried telephone cables, they soon discovered that gophers loved the new vinyl insulation. They would sniff it out underground and dig their way to it just to eat it. Of course Bell Tel had never had any gopher problems with lead-covered cable. The went back the lab and did some experiments and came up with some additive to the plastic that made it distasteful to the gophers and that solved their problems.

Now if only they would put something in the black poly water pipe to make the bears stop biting holes in it.
