If your 100% sure your taping into the tail light wire as you said and not a signal wire,
and the light blinks when you use the turn signal you have a bad ground on one of the lights.
Your tail light wire should be Brown
Left turn and brake wire should be yellow.
Right turn and brake wire will be Green
