Around here, Skookum blocks are the good ones, not sure about your neck of the woods.

Be careful with that chain between the trees because when you tighten up that line, it's going to pull those trees towards each other with a lot more force than whatever force you're putting on the block. If you have to do it that way (can't find a tree in line), make your chain as loose as possible so it looks like a "Y" with the angle between the trees as sharp as possible.

I'll admit the block I use the most is Chinese but I bought it from a real rigging store and it seems good. I think it was 8 ton and I paid $50 or so for it, but it was a long time ago. Maybe it was 4 ton and I paid $60. Something like that, though. Since then I've picked up others at flea markets, but they're too big for convenient use. Got one double block that came with the wrecker that I can't even lift. Must be about 40 ton. Skookum is still in business, but they ain't cheap.
