Many years back I read a story about this guys daughter who was doing a school science project where the ground generates heat, even in the winter. Now mind you, this guy lived in Fairbanks, Ak. So, during Christmas break, they make a snow cave in their backyard, slept in it for four or five nights, taking temperture readings at night and first thing in the morning, and yes, except for the night were they didn't place the door cover in right, the temps did go up.
