Tim: I've had a plasma for a bunch of years now. I started with a Miller Spectrum 375. It worked well, but had some problems after 6-7 years. Miller service was great, and worked on it for no charge long after it was out of warrantee. I replaced it with a Hypertherm Powermax 45, which is a 45 amp cutter versus 27. If you never want to cut more than 3/8", something in the 30 amp range works great, but 3/8" you have to take it easy. The 45 amp Powermax cuts 3/8" like warm butter. The bad side is it costs well over a thousand bucks... If I could suggest, go to your local welding supply and see what they have. While I have Miller welders, Hypertherm seems to be the king of plasma cutters. The Eastwood boxes probably work well, but where are they made, and where do you get them serviced? I don't think you will find too many metal fabrication shops with Eastwood, but maybe I'm old school.
