correct procedures are in most repair manuals
warm the engine, remove coil wire, remove plugs, crank with throttle wide open, note readings for each cylinder then put some heavy oil in each cylinder and retest
if the compression pressure increases then
the problem is the piston rings if not then it is a valve problem
