Well, the photos in the catalog do make the shafts appear to be the same length.
But, the catalog also reminded me that the shafts will not interchange between the civilian and military versions (on the M37, at least) because the tang on the military version is offset.
I'd just try putting in new bushings. You don't have much to lose.
