Well my buddy I work with came over after training today, we work in the shop together, and hes an automotive GENIUS. Hes the lead mechanic and electrician for his cousins drag car, built from scratch from the ground up.

So..... we took the distributor out. First thing, I forgot to put the condenser back in the second time, after I changed all the parts, DUUHHH. So when he got done laughin at me for that, took all the plugs out and rotated to TDC. Put all the plugs back in, slid the distributor into place, connected everything, lined the plug wires up to firing order........ Started right up after two cranks. I felt like an idiot, I left the condenser out.

Anyway, she still spit and sputtered and back fired a few times, he looked at me thru the windshield and said, you got a vacuum leak somewhere. Walked over to the passenger side, and it back fired, he gave the slit throat signal for shut it down. He looked at me and laughed again and said Yup, you got a HUGE vacuum leak! I got out and said where, I dont have any lines hooked up.

Well as it turns out the same guy that rebuilt it had plastic plugs in the vacuum port on the #6 cylinder end of the intake manifold. The plug was even with the top of the hole, and painted over with silver paint. I never knew it was there.

He said it probably blew it out when the truck initially backfired, and then never recovered.

So off to Lowes I went. Got two 1/8 to 1/4 brass pipe fittings and two 1/4 caps. Turns out the other plug on the vacuum port of the carb was doin the same thing, pushed all they way in and painted black so it wasnt noticeable as a plug.

Installed both brass fittings............... RUNS LIKE A TOP!!!!! Never run as smooth as it does right now!!!!!! Its now 9:30 and I just got done!! Did all this in uniform after being in haz mat trainign all day, setting up decon pools and mass decon corridors using four fire engines.

BUT DAMNIT ITS RUNNING AGAIN!!!!!!!

So many thanks to all you guys for all your patience and help and suggestions. I hope I can someday become half as knowledgeable as you guys

Tomorrow shes takin me to training!!

Thanks
Nick
