A couple forums back, I posted a message about a guy I work with who has been having a tapping sound coming from the engine on his 08 Dodge 1500 with the 4.7 V8. Turns out the Dodge dealer that said it needed a short block never did any work on it, even though they had the truck for 3 or 4 weeks. They were waiting for the district manager to okay the repair. Tom (the guy I work with) got tired of waiting, got his truck back, took it to a different dealer, who found that the tapping sound is the result of a bad hydraulic like tappet that's up in the head. Not really sure what the part is called, but Tom said that it's like an adjustable lifter.
