Dana front end problems

My son has a 1960 W100 with a closed knuckle Dana front drive axle, 8 lugs. The surface where the trunion bearings rides in the knuckle has a hairline crack, and is slightly out of round. He needs a new axle housing, but I wondered if it is possible to cut off the knuckle housing and weld another one in it's place, assuming we could find a donor. Thanks. JH
