Stamped numbers on the block: GM 318R 3403 1316. From what I have found on the web, it appears that the engine was made May 23 1971, the 1316th engine made that day. The crank has a very thin (1/8") parting line at the throws, so I'm pretty sure it's cast. Maybe the crank has been replaced.
