I'm not exactly sure. If you can tell me I'd like to know. It came out of a 1971 D500, and it had the hydraulic bell and short cast iron water pump on it. The D500 had the old style cab on it, like the 67/68 series pickups. I guess they didn't change the bigger trucks until 1972. Anyway, the engine casting says 2538030 318-7 (or the 7 could be a smeared 1), and the engine serial number indicates it was made in May of 1971. It has a 2 barrel Carter carb, and cast iron crank. The exhaust valve seats were not hardened, and I had them installed when they were rebuilt. The engine and accessories all appear to be original to the truck, judging by the date tags, though you never know what could have happened in the past 40+ years
