I had the same problem after I changed the spark plugs and did some maintenance on my Tacoma.

I read on-line that the Tacoma is very finicky about spark plugs and will throw a code if the right brand plug is not used.

I passed the California emissions test and the mileage is unchanged. So, I going to wait until the next test cycle to change the plugs and deal with the problem.

I got a scan tool from Harbor Freight and it's worth the money to have one. If you have a laptop, you can buy an OBD connector and program for less money than a scan tool. The lap top provides more information than the scan tool.

Make sure you didn't accidentally loosen a vacuum hose when you were working on the truck.
