I think kohler makes multiple grades of engines. I have not seen Kawasaki engines in Lowes / home depot mowers but I see plenty of kohler. I bet, like Briggs there are good and bad kohlers. I like my Kawasaki on my toro okay it is a little hard to start which I blame on emissions. I believe most Kawasakis are built in maryville, MO, not sure about kohler these days but their smaller engines are "crafted" in china.
