M37 Master Cylinder Squirting

Just topped off the master cylinder in the M and when I was pumping the brakes fluid squirted out of the little hole in the plug.

Now I think there is air in the lines and will bleed later, but could that be contributing to this squirting? I did not think I put too much in the master cylinder.
