There has always been a huge difference between "Knowing" and "Doing". But at least "knowing" meant that there was a possibility for "doing".
Now instead of being taught to "remember" things, most schooling is shifting to "retrieving" information.
Bottom line--there have never been more opportunities for kids who have a strong work ethic and can "do" something of value.
One of the great values of this forum is the constant discussion between those who want help "doing" and the generous response of those who generously share what they have done and know.
