And kinetic energy is proportional to the SQUARE of the velocity. So a meteor the size of a bullet has 500 times the kinetic energy of a regular bullet. They figure this rock weighed 10 tons. By my figuring that gives it an energy of 300 megawatt hours (in electrical terms) or 250 kilotons in explosive terms. Not exactly Armageddon but it would still hurt if it hit you on the head.
