It has been in the gearhead realm forever and crosses all brands and styles. To me, it is not about ability or resources, it's about desire.

People get enthused about a project and tear it all down, then they are faced with the work. Paul put it best to me, just try to do one thing a day and it adds up after a while.

My build was extremely long but never lost the desire. It's just I had other things that had to get done. Big projects like a shop build, house total redo and garage build ate up close to 3 years on me but I snuck in projects when I could, taking satisfaction out of that. Loads of overtime strung it out as well.

I think with the amount of nice rigs represented on this board it SHOULD encourage others to "get busy" with their projects. I always took others progress as a way to light a fire under me to get going. Seeing pictures of the stages fueled me on.

I have close to 3000 hours in mine but I'm admittedly nuts! It all depends on how far you want to take something and for what reasons. Making your own custom parts is VERY time consuming but that is what I wanted. I would have built a daily driver totally different in a lot less time.

I'm not trying to mislead anyone. If you think a couple hours for a few weekends will get it done you're crazy. Things aren't like the cable show builds that guys tell me about.

With the help and info represented on this page, anything is possible. Paul, Tom, Joe, Gordon and countless others were always willing to share info when I asked. We all gotta learn sometime, somewhere and I think that is what the heart of this page was started for.
