That's one of the reasons I went with an Optima in my Desoto. I had a maintainer boil a cell dry and the battery exploded when I tried to start the car.
The Optima batteries have almost no idle drain, so they can sit disconnected for over a year and loose less than a volt.
It does a good job dealing with the big block in that car, which can take a while to start when it's been sitting for a few weeks. Its been in the vehicle for about three years now.
