not emissions. there was no emissions requirements except in CA back then. My take on why they never redesigned is becasuse these trucks were sold and used world wide for so long that keeping them servicable is easier if the design doesnt change. Chrysler had dealers and support everywhere back then. Also the sales numbers were quite low so may not have justified the retooling ocsts. even today the 1 ton 4x4 is a low production numbers truck. and what looks better! nothing in the class.
