Googled "spark plug wear chart" and a link to this chart and brief description came up on top. I hope it helps your diagnosis. As for the miss in the engine if you can pin point the cylinder maybe one of those in line lightbulb-style ignition testers will be able to tell you if the plug is getting juice or not.
