Bruce;
2 of my old iron use a 'Canned Ham" which is the pump and reservoir all in one.
The other 2 of my old iron have a remote reservoir located on the fire wall. The only reason I used the remote reservoir was that I had pumps with no built in reservoir and I had 2 remote reservoirs on the shelf.

The remote reservoir must be higher that the PS Pump. Its location has nothing to do with the hydroboost. You mention that your PS pump does not have any return fitting. Please take a better look, there has to be a return to the pump from the power steering box and if used the hydroboost. Of course the hydroboost and PS box are plumbed in series. The hydroboost is first to get high pressure oil from the pump, the out on the hydroboost goes to the IN on the PS box. The out on the PS box is low pressure and goes to a return fitting on the pump...or remote reservoir.
Somehow your pump has to accept the return from the above or it cant function.

The small return line from the hydroboost will discharge about a TBL spoon of oil each time the brakes are applied and released. This line CANNOT have restrictions or back pressure. I run this line back to a second port on the canned ham pumps and on the remote reservoirs to a Y fitting. You can not use a T fitting as this will allow back pressure. A Y fitting is acceptable as long as you plumb that return line into the Y so the small discharge of oil is flowing into the Y in the same direction as the main return fluid is flowing.

I can post a picture of the Y fitting/return if needed and also the port assignment on the hydroboost. Finally, be sure to feed the hydroboost first, then the PS box, then return the oil to the pump (canned ham) or remote reservoir.

I hope I explained this ok........I dont have any problem understanding what I wrote ha ha ha. Please ask if I did not make any thing clear.

Paul
