Soda and Sand blasting are on opposite ends of the scale when it comes to agressivness of coating removal.

You may want to go with plastic media blasting as an alternative. It will remove material at a faster rate than soda but will not profile metal or generate excessive heat like sand.

I would advise against using an organic media like crushed shells. Organic media leaves behind oils and resins that will have to be removed in a secondary process.

Generally, the most cost effective way of stripping is to use chemical stripping on those parts/components that can be readily removed (fenders, hood, etc...)and to use the media blasting on the main body structure.

I sure they're many who will disagree with this approach - this is just my two cents. If you're in Canada that would be four cents.
