Stuck valve remedies?

I have just started working on the 49 and determined that one valve is stuck open on the number 5 cylinder, What has worked the best for you? I have completely soaked with penetrating fluid and have run the motor for maybe an hour hoping to jar it loose with no effect. Can I grab the spring and retainer and try to pull it down? Or am I going to have to pull the head and tap on it with a mallet? Any help would be greatly appreciated
