Brett makes really good points. If I just absolutely had to have an automatic (hard for me to understand with the great 6 spds all 3 offer) I would wit 6-12 mos, see if the Allison/Duramax is doing well, and if so get one. Except for that darned IFS. I know I'm a throwback, but if someone GAVE me a Chevy (with a Duramax and 6 spd), I'd spend $5000 and put a Dana 60 front axle under it, maybe along with a real transfer case (NP203/205 doubler) and a 4-6" lift.
Then it would be just like a real truck, except with a fantastic drivetrain, nice quiet interior and thinner sheetmetal.
