Gordon,
I just returned from The Smoky Mountains yesterday. I drove my 94 four door F-350 7.3 turbo diesel. It is a I.H. and got 428 miles on 25.34 gallons of fuel. I left from just north east of Indianapolis. The trip was 398 miles one way. She drove nice all the way there and all the way back, almost.... I was about 10 miles from home when the serpantine belt split in two on me. It seems the tension pulley bearing gave up and stopped turning. # months ago it was the idler pulley stopped turning and broke and the belt. 8 months ago it was the fuel pump (1300.00). They do run great but the maintainance will break you if you know little of diesel engines to begin with.
I am like you, I wanted a 4 door and love dodge. I work there for crying out loud. I settled for a Ford because it is the best 4 door of all diesels to get. The chevy I test drove was to noisy and leaked oil like crazy at 45,000 miles.
