I just installed PowerTrax's No-Slip lockers in both differentials in my '74 Scout II and went wheeling in Moab over Easter with it. The rear locker was a tremendous help, but the front locker got to be a pain on most of the slick rock trails. I usually left the front hubs unlocked and ran the trails in low range. The only time I locked in the front hubs was when I needed ultimate traction, and boy did I get traction! These lockers are essentially improved LockRites - stronger and less harsh. Lockers in the front differential will cause your steering to get real difficult, but will also add a bunch to overall traction (and breakage). I haven't had a chance to run on ice or snow with these lockers, but they are supposed to change driving characteristics a bunch on slick roads. Unless you need ultimate traction, I recommend installing a locker in the rear only. I do some pretty extreme stuff in my old Scout (and in my '49 B1PW, too), so I can justify the cost and degraded driving characteristics. Tell us about your upgrades if you do them.
