Hello Howard,

I replaced one of the freeze/expansion/welch plugs that was leaking in my 49, and noticed the same sludge in the bottom of the block. I poured in a bottle of Prestone Super Flush and will see how that goes. I'd think that the best bet though would be to have the cooling system professionally flushed. In the interim you will probably be fine with an after market flush, or as was mentioned in an earlier posting; Tide. Regarding the rusted screws, just keep soaking them with a good penetrating oil and if you have an old screwdriver, give it a whack or two or three or four etc. and it should eventually work loose. The judicious application of heat also helps. If all else fails you can always drill them out. Sometimes you'll get lucky if you're very careful, and can remove the remnants of thread, but if not just go to a larger drill bit and then retap the threads. Too bad about the comments on grammer and literary content. Some folks have nothing better to do than to seek fault with others. I tend to measure a man/woman by their character rather than their educational level. Hang in there and have fun. If you need any other parts, let me know.
