When the motor is over $4000, I dont think getting the truck for under $10000 is reasonable. I have an 85 Dodge one ton crew cab shortbed 4x4 (all factory!)that I use for short trips, hunting, fishing, pulling the boat, etc, but if Im going any distance over about 50 miles or pulling a load, I get in the cummins. Sure they are expensive, but what do you expect when the auto companies have contracts with the unions paying 75% or more of the wages even when the people are not working?!?!?!?! I think the day will come that people will no longer pay the price asked for new vehicles-and we have to be getting close. The only way to fix it unfortunately is to automate and eliminate the labor. I guarantee you that my truck is not worth over $5.50 per pound. The labor is where the cost is-and all of the quality and environmental programs-that dont actually make a difference-but they do make jobs-and that runs the price up. Thought Id vent a little. Im kinda in the middle of all this and get to see the real picture. I like the old AND the new, and lets face it, you cant really get by with just the old if you do much of anything in todays world.
