I recently took a trip from Ct to Maine. 3&1/2 hour ride one way. I filled up in maine on the way back. I also drove around locally a couple of days. I had about 500 lbs of motorcyle parts in the back. I got 17.07 MPG. I have a 99 Dodge 2500 diesel with 4 whl drive , 5 speed and 3:54 gears. Most of the trip I went about 75MPH. near the end I was sick of driving and noticed I was doing 90 for a few miles. This is a major improvment from the last trip that i got 14 hauling an empty trailer both ways to NJ and back last year.
