From what I gather, the new 24V Cummins does not get the excellent fuel mileage that the earlier 12V Cummins did. Of course, the 24V has more "Kick it in the pants", move the load down the road power.

From a standstill, the 6 speed is going to keep your load moving with greater ease, resulting in less drop of rpms when you shift. If you were frequently running unloaded, this results in having more shifting to do, but would get better mpg.

I like my 24V 98 2500, it is a fine machine which serves all my needs, except family hauling with the standard cab.
