Just con-trary to the laws of physics. The idea is so appealing, like the old "motor that runs on magnets", that every generation has to rediscover it. This one seems to combine a gas engine with an air motor in some way. Perhaps it uses the air for regenerative braking. If so, then the tradeoff is between the cost, complexity, and inefficiency of an air-storage regenerative braking system and the cost, complexity, and inefficiency of a battery-storage regenerative braking system. Given that there's only limited use for regenerative braking anyway (heavy stop-and-go traffic) I'm still not seeing what this is good for other than maybe an MIT or Berkley grad student project.
