The problem is with how your browser or email program is configured. When you click what's called a "mailto" link, the browser is supposed to bring up your email program. Whenever you have one program trying to control another completely different program on your computer, there is the potential for things to go wrong. Sometimes they make things too clever for their own good.
Rather than try to work through all the possibilities here, the easiest fix is to just copy the email address from the forum. In Firefox, right-click the blue name, and select "Copy email address". Other browsers are probably similar. Now the email address is only your clipboard. Next go to your email program, whatever it is, and make like you want to start a new message to someone. In the "To" field, paste the copied email address. Usually that means right click the mouse followed by selecting "Paste". "Ctrl-V" also usually works.
If you want to do it even more manually, you'll notice that when you move the mouse pointer over the blue name, the guy's email address appears at the bottom of the browser window. You can just copy it on paper or remember it and type it into your email program.
