I heat with wood so I smile when the gas and oil trucks go by ;) I average around 13 cord a year heating a 2 story with full basement 36' X 50' house and attached 36' x 50' garage. Does all the hot water too. Well isulated side walls to outside makes a big difference on cool down too. I did that on the garage as seen below. I heave a friend who only turns his up on when he's going to work in the shop. rest of the time it's set at 50 degrees and rarely calls for heat.

Uninsulated factory building would be a killer no doubt. Especially with the doors open all day.

Mine works well for me and have basically endless supply of fuel. I'm 8 years ahead now with whats stored under roof so I guess my situation may be different than most.
