The only issue I have with radiant heat is the cost of operating it in a shop. Radiant heating takes a long time to get to a comfortable level & so turning the temp way down when not in use isn't really an option & so unless I was working in the shop 12+ hours a day...I just can't imagine the huge gas bills you'd be getting.
In our machine shop here at the shipyard, we have ceiling hung radiant gas heaters. They use a ton of gas too but the beauty is you come in in the morning, it's freezing in the shop, you turn them on & in 10 minutes it's warm. You leave & turn most of them off...maybe leave one on when it's really cold but at least you can control the size of your gas bills.
The floor heat...I mean it's beautiful but I'd personally rather spend that money doubling the size of my shop :)
The bridge crane...I'm with Kevin...that's a must in a big machine shop. Have a look at the link below. I use ours daily & I'd be lost without it. If you want to lift 3000lbs get a 10,000lb crane...you'll use it! :)
I'd look for a used gantry crane & build my shop around it if it were me.
Like for example, our building is going to be demolished in the next year or less & our bridge crane will end up at the salvage yard. If you can find a similar situation, you can probably get it close to free if you pay to remove it but they are size specific & so it would be difficult to retrofit later without having a very expensive unit custom built.
I'd put my money into that before floor heat...unless I had enough money for both!:)
That's my $.02!
