I think it depends on what you do as to what you wear. Working for the railroad as a switchman has been a long process to find what works for me. To me being too warm is the problem. You get too warm and sweat you are done for and will freeze no matter what you have on. I discovered polypro long underware. I actually use the military's cold weather system and it works great. Light weight and doesnt bulk me up with a lot of clothing. I'll wear a polypro long underware and an army bdu shirt with blue jeans and its usually what I wear in the winter. On really cold days I will put on a carhart chore coat. Its not a real heavy insulated coat. I havent wore my artic carhart in years as its too warm.

There are some times when I am not wearing my chore coat I am cool. Not cold but cool. Keeps me from sweating.

I think if you have little to no activity a good set of coveralls would work great but if you are going to be working and moving a lot polypro is the only way to go these days!
