All the old trucks and trailers still being sold by the DRMOs are sold as Demil B & C (Commerce Control List) which means you can't export them or their parts to enemy countries (check the enemy list weekly). Yeah, a 40 year old box trailer is a "controlled munition".

Same thing with electronic equipment. Old civilian test equipment made by HP, Tektronix, or Fluke back in the '70s is being crushed these days rather than sold to hobbyists because it was procured as part of some weapons system way back when and it apparently takes an act of congress to change the Demil code associated with an NSN.

It sounds like the DLA has got hold of Ebay and told them to crack down on sales of anything that was ever sold by the government with a demil code other than "A".

This latest round of foolishness began with the poison gas subway attacks by that religious cult in Japan. In the course of the investigation it turned out some US surplus dealer sold the cultists a bunch of gas masks. They threw the book at him and from what I was told he was out a couple hundred grand by the time they were done with him, all because he hadn't gotten an export license for the gas masks. There was no insinuation that he had any idea what the people who bought them were going to do with them, much less that he had any sort of hand in the murders.
