It began when I was trying to replace a seal in the shift rod hole on my WC12 transfer case and now I am mystified as the story about this truck. From the frame and data plate on the glove box I am sure of the following: Model WC12, serial number (not Government registration number): 8678035, date of delivery: 8/7/1941, also "QM Corps" stamped on data plate. The "blackout" lights are attached on the side of each of the headlights and not the slit like blackouts but louvered glass (not blue). Also the small seal that should fit the shift rod on the TC is too large although from your reports its the correct one for the WC. Based on the casting number on the Transfer Case there is a likelihood that this may be a VC transfer case! This may make sense when one considers the odd blackout lights.

For you Dodge WC experts, what do I have? A mongrel WC1/2 or a very early WC 1/2 which has left over VC parts on it?. My truck has the civilian gauges and smaller front brake drums. My engine is in the machine shop so I don't have the block number. What do I own?

My main question is
