I don't doubt that ethanol loosens up gunk in the tank which clogs the filters. I'm just saying ethanol may not be as good as methanol for "drying" a gas tank that has water in the bottom of it.
I had that same problem with one of the M35s the first time I ran gasoline in it. The gas loosened 30 years of varnish on the inside of the tank and gooey globs of it clogged the fuel pump screen.
