There's no point in trying to seal the sheet metal clutch cover to the bell housing. It has a stamped drain hole in the bottom that's always open and the front side of it is only loosely sealed by another sheet metal piece that has some felt on it that sort of fills the gap when it's fresh. There's enough of a seal to keep out large amounts of dirt and water, but nowhere near enough of a seal to justify putting a gasket between the pan and the housing. I believe the proper military version has a cast "pan" with a screw-in drain plug that you're supposed to install before fording and remove when done fording.
