not sure the exact year but Ford got stupid and quit using the 8 on 6.5 sometime in the early 90s and went for a metric size , there are also 9 and 10 lug versions . Ford used the dana 60 up until 2011 and might use it on the heavy duty F450 and F550 in 2012 and 13 . Before 77 the axles were low pinion and after then there were HP axles in some F250 s and most F350s . Sometime in the late 80s the axles got changed over from kingpin to ball joint , exact date exscapes me . the conversion is not cheap . I bought a whole chev truck to do the conversion on my other chev . The axles in my carryall have about 3 grand in parts tyded up in each one . i have seen some real low milage axles get sold recently at ridiculous prices - front and rear axles complete for 600 bucks with around 30,000 miles on them , going rate for matched axles seems to be around 1200-1500 bucks in decent shape .
You will need to do a bunch of fabbing anddriveshaft work to get everthing to fit and if you keep the corp GM rear the gears will need to match the front .
Lots of fun .
