I converted my electrical system over to 12 volt, negative ground. I still liked the look and sound of a generator, so did a little research. I came up with an Autolite GJP 7402A, 12 volt, 35 AMP unit. It was used by Chrysler, Studebaker, even Jeep. A VR-15 voltage regulator matches up with it.
Other generators are out there that make for an easy switch. The nice thing about the Autolite unit is that it is the same dimensions as the old 6 volt generator, so bolting it in is a snap.
