Back forty years ago, the majority of killing was one-on-one, and had some sort of reason (cheating wife, mafioso, business deal gone wrong, cheating husband, property dispute, ad infinitum) behind it that was at least PARTIALLY understandable. We didn't have the "ghetto thugs" then, and kids were taught hard work and respect for their elders weren't options- they were mandatory. Today, people think there are things that are "rights" as human beings, and they are entitled to what they want without any sacrifices of their own. Life isn't fair, nor should it be just because we want it to be. My father told me when I was sixteen years old that I was to find a job, and keep it. Twenty years later, I'm still there. Maybe he didn't mean it THAT literally, but I'm very thankful that he instilled the ethic of hard work into me. I've never needed welfare, nor health insurance (to this date), and have paid my way with cash earned from my job and various other labor. I'm perfectly happy with my $15.43 an hour, and single-wide trailer with central air. I'm still not entitled to anything, nor will I ever be. Being called Dad by my son every day is all I've ever needed to hear. The "I love you, Dad" is a bonus. With my three high-powered rifles tucked away and none being shot in at least a decade, I take offense to the statements about our guns being needed to be taken away. I'd never shoot anyone, for any reason, unless they posed a threat to my family. To this date, nobody ever has, has never threatened any of them in any way, and I've never, ever wanted to off anyone in a rage or lapse of better judgement. Heck, I rarely ever even get mad enough to slam a door. Once every three years, maybe?
