Your easiest swap to a synchro is to install a tranny from an M37. It will be a direct bolt up and is essentially an NP420 inside. Although I have not tried it, the top from your NP420 may swap with the M37 top giving you the Power Wagon shifter lever. The M37 lever is a short stub that then has a second cane that attaches at 90 degrees . They still work, but are not the original look. The other possibility, and I havent tried this either, is to swap the shifters levers only from that the M37 tranny and the NP420.
The rear driveshaft yoke will need to swap out as well but that is a direct swap.
M37 trannys are plentiful. There is an early version and a later version, the later ones are better but the early ones are fine too. Check out Dave Cirillo's website to see the differences. www.jobrated.com
