machinist in addition to working in his family's ice delivery in NYC. Must have been interesting and purpose filled times working a full day (in the wee hours) in NYC and then going to Bayonne, NJ to work machining turret parts for war ships. Grandfather had no previous machine training or advanced schooling. just smart and hard working. the greatest generation for sure.....
