I don't know of any good reasons for getting rid of the wood blocks and replacing them with the rubber mounts, but I am sure there probably are some.
However, I can think of one bad result. The early trucks that used the wood blocks had cab mounts riveted to the frame in a different location than the later trucks that used the rubber mounts. So, there is no simple swapping of the two styles and hope to be done with it. You will experience some misalignment with the other components as the early truck has the wrong frame for everything to line up with the later mounts.
