6 volt batteries were smaller than12 volt batteries, thus the bracket you are referring to. The thing I wonder about is why didnt they start out with smaller size trays when all they offered were 6 volt batts, instead of partitioning off 12 volt trays? Maybe they had a few hundred thousand 12 volt trays left over from war production?
