I did a bad connection with those terminal ends.

I used ends with a ring of low melting point solder inside the heat shrink. I guess on one I didn't slide the wire in deep enough, then I crimped the solder. Once heated/melted, the solder ball on the wire made intermittent contact with the end ring. So, wiggle your wires to check?

Idiot lights act as the ground for the field of the armature. They only come on if the alt is idle, and are not really necessary. Sort of like polarizing a regulator. I don't hook that wire up and the alts work fine but need to be revved before they start making juice. So the white wire is not your problem. And if the red wire is loose. the alt overcharges. So your problem is in the big output wire between alt and batt, but not between batt and ignition or everything would die.

So start by checking the big alt wire.
