And they really are two different diseases, with two causes, and some overlap in treatment.

T1, childhood onset, is caused by an auto-immune attack on the cells that make insulin. A few units every day gets right at the root. PITA and permanent. It'a about 5% of the total number of patients.

T2 is adult onset, the vast majority if the patients, and is caused by the body not being able to use the insulin it makes very well. It's called 'insulin resistance'. So it needs more, Lots more, 300 units per day is not unusual.

But T2 is 'curable' in that weight loss and exercise will nearly knock it out. Last year I was taking 220/day. Then I took up a Power Wagon For Health program. Pumping parts to the tune of 7,000 calories per day, while eating little. Lost 60 pounds at 10 per week. Got off the needle completely. Lately I have been backsliding, gained back 15, back to the needle, 35 units/day.

But "Sugar Diabetes" is pretty meaningless. Type 1 or 2 means lots more. And it's too bad they even share that much of their names.
