230 or not ?

A friend of mine was replacing the old straight six in his '57 D200 with a 318. He pulled motor and tranny out, put them on blocks under a shed.

Question: Is there a simple way to tell a 230 from a 250? According to the book you could get either one that year.

In a flat finder, installed, it's easy--the radiator and grill are extended to fit the longer block. Also, I am assuming that the gear box is a synchro by '57.
